The result: you pour 10 drops into your bottle of homemade detergent, add a spoonful to the fabric softener compartment, hope for delicately scented laundry&#8230; and you get nothing. Or almost nothing.   <\/p><p>Can <strong>essential oils for laundry<\/strong> be <strong id=\"isPasted\">washed in the washing machine<\/strong>?<\/p><p>Between<strong>hot water<\/strong>, <strong>Marseille soap<\/strong>, soda crystals, rinse cycles and absorbent cloths, the<strong>essential oil<\/strong> is destroyed or eliminated before it can take effect. Quite the contrary, in fact.<strong>Essential<\/strong> <strong>oils<\/strong>, by definition, are volatile: they are easily eliminated, notably by the effect of<strong>hot water<\/strong>, the heat of the cycle, the presence of soap, or simply the final rinse.  <\/p><p data-start=\"599\" data-end=\"881\">The result: even if you pour several drops into the fabric softener compartment, there&#8217;s often no perceptible scent left on the dry linen. And if a fresh scent is perceptible on leaving the machine, it generally disappears when drying or ironing. <\/p><p data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"1164\">Even more problematic: in order to &#8220;smell something&#8221;, some people come to overdose the oils, thinking that the linen will be better scented as a result. This does not improve the<strong>effectiveness of <\/strong><strong>essential oils<\/strong>, but increases the risks (irritation, stains, waste). <\/p><p data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1356\">\ud83d\udcac Simple conclusion: <strong>perfuming your<\/strong> machine <strong>laundry<\/strong> with <strong>essential oils<\/strong> is not the right method. Because a 10 ml bottle of recommended essential oils (lavender, lemon, rose geranium&#8230;) represents between 1 and 3 kg of fresh plant matter. For some citrus flowers or zests, it&#8217;s even more. The distillation process requires time, energy and resources, which justifies its price and power.   <\/p><p data-start=\"1910\" data-end=\"2289\">However, once poured into the detergent, these concentrated substances are poorly soluble in water. They do not adhere to the fabric, but are usually discharged with the wastewater, having served no purpose. The result: no beneficial effects, but residual pollution of aquatic environments (notably due to their impact on useful bacterial flora). Their effectiveness depends on targeted use, in low doses, in conditions where their therapeutic or olfactory properties can really be exploited. <\/p><p data-start=\"2752\" data-end=\"2968\">Putting them in a <strong>washing machine<\/strong> cycle, at 40 or 60\u00b0C, is like putting organic wine in a pressure cooker: the essence is lost, and there are no serious tests demonstrating real effectiveness in this context.<\/p><p data-start=\"2970\" data-end=\"3399\">And yet, we continue to see vague recommendations: &#8220;<strong>pour 5 drops<\/strong> into the fabric softener compartment&#8221;, &#8220;<strong>add to your laundry<\/strong> to perfume naturally&#8221;&#8230; But no reliable study, no informed recommendation, supports this practice. On the contrary, aromatherapy experts recommend reserving <strong>essential<\/strong> oils for precise, measured uses that respect their potency.  <\/p><p data-start=\"3401\" data-end=\"3544\">\ud83d\udcac In short: it&#8217;s neither a good precaution nor a good use. It&#8217;s a common reflex, but one that we need to learn to question if we&#8217;re looking for a truly ecological solution. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fca4410 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fca4410\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">  Scenting your laundry naturally: really effective alternatives<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7c9620 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b7c9620\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Just because a natural essential oil can&#8217;t withstand heat or the rinse cycle, that doesn&#8217;t mean you have to give up all natural fragrance or fresh scent on your laundry. There are more effective, gentler and much more ecological solutions for <strong>scenting laundry<\/strong> without risk&#8230; or waste. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7586a22 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7586a22\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Spray post-wash laundry water<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6e10e5a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6e10e5a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p id=\"isPasted\" data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"757\">The simplest and most effective solution is to prepare a scented laundry water, to be sprayed onto dry linen once it has come out of the machine.
