Spike lavender and its hydrosol

Lavender Aspic, unlike its cousins, has a distinct character. It takes its name“aspic” from the snake that, according to legend, bit Cleopatra. But rest assured, far from any danger, this name refers to its unique and powerful properties.

Harvested in August, this lavender is no accidental discovery. It grows in secret, unspoilt locations, nestled in the heart of the majestic Corbières. These unspoiled, wild lands give this hydrosol unrivalled quality and exceptional concentration. Its fresh, slightly camphorated floral fragrance evokes the authenticity of the landscapes where it blooms.

The history and traditional uses of lavender aspic

Lavender Aspic, with its great versatility, was once coveted for much more than its ability to soothe bites. Respiratory infections, rheumatism and skin repair were among its many areas of excellence. Yet navigating the history of lavender is a complex task. Ancient authors, in their wisdom, often tended to intermingle the characteristics of lavender officinale and lavender aspic. Hildegarde de Bingen spoke of a lavender, Spica, and said: ” Lavender is hot and dry, and its heat is healthy. If you cook lavender with wine – or, if you have no wine, with water and honey – and drink it often, lukewarm, you soothe the pains of the liver and lung, as well as the vapors of the chest; you also obtain pure knowledge and a pure mind”. These words illustrate the esteem and respect accorded to this essence throughout the ages.

Recognizing this precious heritage, at Boèmia we harvest and process Lavender Aspic with the respect and devotion it deserves, proudly inscribing ourselves in this rich history.
