Buckthorn and its hydrosol

Bupleurum fruticosum is a perpetually green plant found in the Mediterranean basin. Its name comes from the Greek “Bous”, meaning ox, and “pleurons”, meaning rib, in reference to the rigidity of its leaves. This sturdy little shrub, which thrives in the dry, rocky soils of France’s Corbières region, has umbel-shaped yellow-green flowers.

Our organic Buplèvre hydrosol is obtained by steam extraction, a method that preserves its precious constituents, such as alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. It’s a rare hydrolat, harvested by hand in its natural environment, then carefully distilled in our workshop.

The history and traditional use of buplèvre

Rarely cited in Western phytotherapy, Buplèvre was traditionally used for its beneficial action on joint pain and sciatica.

 It plays an important role in Oriental medicine. Buplèvre is a key ingredient in Soshiho-tang, a herbal preparation used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, renowned for its good tolerance.
